Insects can be a real menace to the home orchards. You will be waiting for your Apple tree harvest and you will be sad to known when the insects literally grab your apples in front of you. This will obviously make you think that all the insects in the world are parasites and bad. Do not forget one thing that nothing in this world is hundred percent good or hundred percent bad. This is true even in the case of insects. So there are beneficial insects in this world and they will really help you in handling the pests.

The key to wining the battle is to understand the pest's life cycle and habits and then use this information to counteract these insects with the help of the insects who eat their eggs, or larvae, or these insects as a whole. This method is very useful since it avoids the use of the harmful pesticides. These pesticides are harmful for the insects and the plants as well. So their use should be avoided as far as possible. They also kill the beneficial insects which help in pollination and do other useful activities. This results in the sharp decline in the yields of major food crops. To avoid all these catastrophic effects you have to avoid the use of the crude synthetic fertilizers. The major advantage of these methods is that the home gardeners with a little known how can perform these methods. The advantages of these methods are the techniques are very simple effective and then they do not require large expenditure.

The beneficial insects and other micro-organisms are as follows:

Bacillus thuringiensis or more popularly known as BT:

These organisms kill the larvae of the insects by dissolving their intestines. So these larvae cannot feed on the fruits of the plants since they are incapable of feeding. One more natural enemy of this moth is Trichogramma wasps. They grow as tiny parasites on the larvae of the codling moth. So you can always take the benefit of the natural enemies of these pests. So beneficial insects are very important.
