Most of the time we select plants for the garden that is colorful, have a good fragrance and many such criteria. But if you want to have a backyard garden, then you should be very careful while selecting the plants for your garden as well as the birds. The shrubs, perennials, annuals, native and the cultivated plants can be used in your garden for the birds. Grow few plants from each class so that your garden will be full of fruits and seeds throughout the year.

Different Bird Plans

* Berries- berries are off-season food for the birds. They are also very colorful and their bright fruits make up their appearance during the dull winters.

* Hawthorne trees- these trees are regarded as bird magnets. They blossom in the month of May with strong crimson flowersdeveloping into clusters of fruits hanging during the winters. Birds feed on these trees throughout the year.

* Crabapple trees- these trees are the favorites of the winter birds. The fruits of the tree continue to remain harder even after being bitten by the birds before their maturity.

* American cranberry bush- this is a shrub producing a cluster of fruits that are orange in color. The fruits remain on the plants till the month of February.

Birds like thickets, so you should plant a number of shrubs in your garden to create an eco-friendly atmosphere for the birds. The more number of bird species will come to relax in your garden if they find a wide diversity in the different plants planted there.

Bird feeders are not adequate for attracting the birds in your garden. Birds need a variety in their food. So plant many varieties of trees that will bear a lot of nuts, berries and fruits for the birds all the year round. Evergreen trees, thick bushes and dense vegetation provide a great relief to the birds. They provide them with food during the winters and give a cozy place to shade themselves during the hot summers.

Many plants and trees are also used by the birds to build their nests. They build nests in the bushes, thickets, vines as well as inside the branches of the tree.
