You can make your special backyard for the birds if you are the one interested in bird watching and bird feeding. A careful plan and a creative landscape will surely make your backyard a place of welcome of the different colorful species of the birds. Birds basically require food, water and shelter for their survival. Fulfilling these basic amenities will attract birds in large numbers in your backyard.

The type of food greatly determines which type of birds will live in your backyard. There are birds that eat a variety of food, whereas others are very choosy or specific regarding their foods.

You will find the following birds in your backyard:

* Chickadees, nuthatches, cardinals, goldfinches and juncos in your backyard provided there are sunflower seeds in the garden.

* Woodpeckers, titmice, blue jays, cardinals and grosbeaks will be attracted in a large number with the striped sunflower due to its size and the presence of hard shell.

* Safflower will attract birds like evening grosbeaks, brown thrashers, nuthatches, cardinals and chickadees in your backyard.

* Towhees, sparrows, morning doves and juncos are the birds that will prefer to live in your backyard if they find millets having smaller seed size.

* Peanuts will allow the birds like bluebirds, woodpeckers, nuthatches and titmice in your backyard.

* Indigo, buntings, morning doves, juncos and woodpeckers will live in your backyard if they find a variety of cracked corns during the winters.

The humming bird is also many times found in your backyard. It is one of the smallest birds in the North America and it can also fly backwards. Their wings move in a circular direction allowing them to move sideways, ahead or backwards.

You can have a beautiful and attractive backyard for making the birds live in your backyard. Provide them with different sources with of food like nectar, insects, berries, fruits, nuts and seeds. Have a birdbath, a pond or a stream close to your backyard. One of the most important thing is that keep the cats away from your backyard. This is so because outdoor cats kill hundreds and thousands of birds every year.
