In this article we are going to discuss the cultivation of Peach in the home orchards. So we have to consider the simple techniques and methods involved in the cultivation of peach tree:

Firstly let us consider some information about the Peach plant. This information is very basic in nature but very important for growing of these trees on the Orchard. Peach plant is native to China. It bears an edible juicy fruit also called Peach that is homologous to the name of the tree. It is a deciduous trees which can grow upto Five to ten meters tall. The leaves are Lancelot up to seven to fifteen centimeters long and two to three centimeters broad. The flowers of the peach tree are solitary or paired depending upon the variety. The type of the fruit is drupe it consists of a stone or pit. The flesh of the fruits is yellow or Whitish yellow. Note that the flesh of peach is delicate and can be damaged quite easily. The types of Peaches are red and yellow mainly. The flesh of the yellow variety is acidic to taste while the red one is not acidic.

Cultivation of Peach Trees:

Peach trees mainly grow in the cold environment since they require cold climate to survive. It is obvious for you to think that these trees are very tolerant to cold but this is not the case they can tolerate only moderately cold temperatures. The flower bud of peach is very sensitive to temperature a flower bud will definitely die between the temperatures around -15 degrees to -25 degrees. This isnot a rigid number to be memorized but it is a flexible range which is present. This range generally depends on the type of cultivation practices and the management of other factors.

In addition to this fact a lot of summer heat is required by this peach plant to mature. A problem which is faced by many orchard owners is the freezing of the spring blossoms which results in their damage. Buds can however manage the cold breezes. So these trees can grow in those areas only which can give them a good summer as well as a moderate winter. These plants also require adequate amount of fertilizers too. So while cultivating Peach trees in the Orchards that is the home orchards.

We all like to have or own trees in the vicinity of our house. If we do have a larger area then we do plant some flowering any fruit bearing trees that are very useful. Likewise we can also have our own orchard. An orchard is actually planting of all certain types of "trees and shrubs" that are maintained and also can be benefited for "food production". The trees that are "intentionally" planted in the orchard can be either fruit bearing or nut bearing and the shrubs can be used for flower production. While having a home orchard one has to carefully maintain his orchard and do proper home orchard management.

While having a private orchard one has to take lot of care and precautions from the start. The first very important step is the site selection for the orchard where the climatic conditions of that place should be taken into consideration. The trees or the shrubs that are to be grown in the field should be selected according to the type of soil of the site and the sunlight available.

Proper maintenance of the home orchard is very important. The cultural management of the orchard includes various activities like proper 'care of the orchard floor', 'fertilization', 'irrigation', 'pruning' and 'tree support'. The plants must receive proper irrigation facilities. Along with this one must also carry out proper "cultural practices" of the trees. Pruning is also very important to get good quality of fruits.

Also pest management should be taken care of. It is very important to do pest control in the orchard, in order to avoid any damage to the plants. It should be always remembered that for home orchard management, the pesticides used are different from those pesticides that are used for "commercial growers".

While doing this one also needs to take special safety measures for risky work, like that of spraying pesticides and for chemical storage. These harmful chemicals must be stored away from small children. Having your home orchard is a good thing but you also need to maintain this orchard with great love and care to get the desired "fruits".

The pruning is the cutting of some of the vegetative branches that do not contain any fruits or flowers. This is the common practice in for the plant-planting practitioners. This induces more branching and thus it induces growth. However, before you do the pruning take into account the plant which you going to prune. Different plants react differently to the pruning. Pruning should not damage the plants.

Use of pruning

The pruning has various advantages, which include

It reduces the size of the plants. Therefore, they are easy to maintain. Also smaller height facilitates easier care for the plants like spraying of pesticides harvesting etc. the pruning in the earlier stages of the life of the plants induces them to develop better. If you do the pruning in the mature plants, it would increase their branches and yield. By doing so, you can also avoid the prop up of the fruit laden branches.

Selecting the plants for pruning

The pruning is more effective fore the plants that flower and fruit just once in a year. This is because if the plants flower and fruit throughout the year then the pruning may take away the floral buds as well. The pruning is the best effective for the plants that remain dormant for at least some time of year. You should prune the plants at the dormant time.

Pruning procedure

For pruning, use a good sharp tool that is hygienic. The sharpness is important for getting a cut as is necessary. In addition, it is very important that only the vegetative branch only. Do not cut off bigger branches that may harm the plants. Once you prune the plants do not apply any dressing over the wound. The cut should be flush type.

While pruning you should prune the upper portion of the plant more than the lower. Moreover, the pruning should be mild for the younger plants. Remember that plants will bear the pruning only if they do not have to face any serious climatic conditions immediately after the pruning. Therefore, avoid pruning in the months before the winter or in the seasons when there is a danger of bacterial infection i.e. the rains. However, the pruning is most effective before the spring.

Sometimes it so happens that many people get frustrated when even with the passage of many years the fruit trees the plant in the gardens is seem to take forever to bear fruits. It can take years for the fruit crop to flourish and give you crop. However you have to consider these points.

Size and age of the fruit trees which you have planted:

In the fruit tree category peach and apricots are the earliest bearers. A standard size tree of peach and apricot can produce fruits when it is three to five years old. Apple, cheery, plums take a little longer. The dwarf varieties start to produce earlier then the tall fruit trees. So you must first take a note of this thing.

Other factors are also responsible for the no fruiting problem which is experienced by many of the users.

These factors are explained below:

When the trees are present in full or partial shade then that particular tree is fighting a uphill battle. Fruit do not die in partial shade but they will require more time to bear fruits.

Soil fertility:

Fruit trees require all the nutrients to grow. But note that excessively fertilized soil will encourage the formation of more leaves and branches. This will obviously hamper the fruit production.

Pruning:

All trees benefit from pruning if done in moderation. The advantages of pruning are the rejuvenation of the fruit trees encouragement is provided to the plant to produce more fruiting spurs. Note that removing more then a third of the plant then it will have a harmful effect on the plant then useful. So for making pruning a useful effect then you have to do it in moderation. Lack of moderate pruning is the main reason for the no fruit production. You can also bend the branches if required so that air and light circulation will be to its fullest. This will ensure optimum Humidity to the plant and will ensure that no diseases will infect the plant.

Frost and cold Spells:

Frost and cold spells affect the plant very adversely especially the buds they do not open when the climate is full of cold and frost spells. A cold winter can damage the plants. Even a spring frost will destroy most of the buds especially when the buds have begun to swell.

Introduction

A number of diseases infect the plants in the orchards, and affect the yield from them. A number of pests, which may be Fungi, Bacteria, viruses, insect, worms, etc, cause the diseases.

Some common examples of fungi are the apple Scab black knot, Peach Leaf Curl, etc. They mainly thrive in wet and cool conditions. However, the common fungi powdery Mildew can occur in dry conditions also.

The common examples of the bacteria that infect the plants are the Fireblight, Bacterial Canker, etc. Their rate of multiplication is very high, and therefore they spread quickly, once they occur in the orchard.

The common viruses that infect the plants are, the Stony Pit Virus, X-Disease etc. They spread at a lesser pace than the bacteria or other parasites. Infected plants show symptoms as shown by the nutrient deficient plant and therefore you cannot easily make out whether the plant is facing an infection or deficiency.

When these pests infect the plants, the health, growth, flowering as well as the fruiting of the plants is affected.

Therefore, prevention and cure of the diseases is very important thing to do in the orchard management.

Methods for the prevention

* While planting the trees select the disease resistant varieties. Plant them in proper conditions of soil, light, and water. This is important, as the healthy plants will show resistance to the diseases. Add fertilizers from time to time. In addition to the resistance, the weak plants release some chemicals, which attract the pests.

* If an infection occurs, then remove the branches where it has occurred. This is useful, as the infection will not spread if you do so.

* Some natural varieties of plants resist the pest to occur around them. Therefore planting them in the orchard is beneficial. However, some of them attract the pests therefore; you should not let them grow in the orchard.

* Prevent damage to the plants form the winter or the snow. The damaged parts are prone to infection.

Cure of the infected plants

* You should remove the platn if the disease has completely infected it.

* You can pick up the larger pests.

* If the fungi bacteria or viruses have affected the plants then for it a number of sprays are available in the market these days. They are of both types the natural and chemical. The natural sprays may be of substances that may be toxic for the pests or they may be some biological agents like parasites of the pests, which may kill them etc.

Home orchards love to grow flower trees. The spring season is ideal for growing flower trees. The fruit bearing trees will offer beautiful flowers in autumn season. Pollination is essential to make the flowers survive.

Some flower trees that can be grown in home orchard:

Hibiscus is a bushy tree hat will give beautiful flowers. You can grow them in patios, outside areas etc. It is largely grown in Asia. The flowers may blossom in different colors like red, pink, white and red mixed, yellow and so on. It will flourish in mild climate.

Orchid trees may be either ever green or deciduous. The flowers will grow in mild climate and in large parts of US. The color of the flower may vary from maroon to pink. The shape of the flower is so attractive. The flower may fall in winter climate.

Royal Poinciana is a tropical tree which gives bright orange flowers. The flowers will bloom in bunches and the tree can grow in 40 inches. The tree is ideal for your home orchard as they will not grow much height. You may not do any pruning work for this tree. You can also grow it as potted tree.

Tipu Tipauna is a fast growing deciduous tree which can be grown in tropical climate. It will give gold color flowers in spring season. You can grow in slightly shaded places in your home orchard.

Clusia rosea is another beautiful flower tree that provides pink buds in spring. The flower will later become fruits. It is also called Autograph tree because the children used to write their names on the thick leaves of the tree. The tree is more ideal for any home orchard.

The seeds for these flower plants can be obtained from the nurseries. You can also get from online. You should take care to water the trees. Just sprinkle the water on flower trees. Do not splash water. This will damage the flower. Take adequate care to prevent insects and pests using organic or inorganic pesticides. If you notice the flower bud falls before it blossom then protect the flower from climate, birds etc with the help of small nets. Any flower plant requires adequate sun light. Therefore grow them separately where it can get sufficient sun light.

Having an own home orchard is very interesting but one needs to take a lot of care of the entire orchard. One has to do a lot of preparation from planning which type of site, tree to its maintenance. Also taking care of pests is also very important. Home orchards can contain different types of trees according to your choice.

Since home orchards are normally on a smaller scale, maintenance is not a big problem. Fertilizers are needed by the plants for their more enhanced growth and other excellent results. There are lots of fertilizers used in home orchards. These fertilizers also vary drastically and therefore one needs to select the appropriate type of fertilizer.

Fertilizers are not normally needed for the first 'season'. But it is always recommended, to use fertilizers for the sandy soil or for the trees whose growth is very rapid, for better quality of fruits, in very small, amount for at least twice a particular season. Fertilizers should be restricted from being used on very dry soil. The second year of the growth of the trees needs lots of nitrogen fertilizers. Fertilizers containing nitrogen should be should be u8sed after regular intervals. Also the soil containing high amount of pH is beneficial. Avoid soil having iron and zinc deficiencies. Sprays of these iron and zinc fertilizers are available. It is said that phosphorous application is a must for any tree until it starts bearing fruits.

The different types of fertilizers that are commonly used are nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, zinc, magnesium, and boron. There are various types of fertilizers available in the market. There are two types of fertilizers known as the organic fertilizers and those that are inorganic fertilizers. It is always advantageous to use organic fertilizers, as they contain all the minerals needed in adequate amount without having any kind of side effects on the trees. Thought these organic fertilizers are quite expensive, they are recommended for use and proper growth of the plants. Comparatively inorganic fertilizers are less costly. The organic fertilizers can be used by rotating any other green crop.

Fertilization is an important aspect of gardening. Many people call fertilizer food of the plant this is a wrong thing plants have the natural and the unique ability to make their own food by photosynthesis. So what exactly these fertilizers do they just act as a part of ingredients for photosynthesis. All plants require sufficient nutrients to function and grow. Some soils cannot provide the essential nutrients to the plants. So you have to fertilize the soil. This will definitely improve the vigor of the plants. The plants which are planted on these soils can grow properly and in good health.

Remember fertilizers are not the food of the plants so if you apply them judiciously then only it is good for the plants. If you apply them in more then required quantities then this will affect the trees adversely. So if you are expecting good growth then it will not be possible. This will definitely demotivate you. So this is an important thing for you to remember. The trees which are mature and are satisfactory in growth may not require fertilization. So when you are considering supplementary fertilization then it is important to known that when and how to apply the fertilizers.

When fertilizing the trees you should take into account various factors like the soil conditions, PH and organic matter content. So you see that fertilization is not a complex process. When you are spending time in fertilizing a tree which improves your landscape then you are not wasting your time you are creating it you are constructing it in a creative way. To know exactly the amount of nutrients which are to be applied to the soil you have to make a soil examination from a professional chemists. So you have to consider these things while gardening. If you have mature trees in your garden then you have to remember that these trees have extensive root systems. So they can take extra nutrients from deep soil too but such is not the case with the small herbaceous plants. So you have to water them and fertilize them constantly since their roots are not very deep. These are the points to be remembered when fertilizing the plants.

Fruit trees are very nice in your yard. You wait each year for the fruits to ripe so that you can pick them. It can be very discouraging for you when you see the insects which are making meal of your fruits. These insects can destroy your fruit trees every year. To get rid of these insects first you have to identify the type of insects which are attacking your plants. Then you can fight back in an organized way. This will protect your trees as well as the fruits. You can use a variety of methods like lures, sprays and even the traps. The fruit trees are so giving they give you, shade, and pure air to breath and at the top of that they give you fruits too eat. These fruits are delicious as well as nutritious at the same time. When you care for your trees they will give you crops for years to come.

When the tree is young you have to take a good care of it. The reason for it is that the trunks, the branches, roots of these trees have not developed properly. So it is important for you too take care of them in this stage. Sometimes it happens in the case of the apple trees that they bore fruits at a young age. At this age even their branches cannot bear the weight of the fruit and the branch may snap off. To avoid this situation you have to properly support the plant when it is young. You can support the tree with the help of broads, bean poles, support of a fence and even the support of a taller and stronger tree. Whatever the method you should provide the tree the support which will not hamper its growth especially during the early years.

Note that the fruit trees require proper nutrition to grow properly so you should provide these plants with fertilizers properly. The optimal combination is the health mix of organic and chemical fertilizers. The large amounts of chemical fertilizers do more damage then good so it will be cleaver of you if you will use these chemical fertilizers judiciously in your fruit garden.

This is how you should care for the fruit trees which will ensure their protection.
