Continuous Casters

As far as the background of the continuous casting is concerned, a molten type of steel is solidified into a semi finished billet or a slab. This slab is used for successive rolling in the mills in which finishing process is taken place. Before the evolution of the process of continuous caters, the finishing mills poured the steel into stationary kind of molds for manufacturing ingots. However, in 1950, the evolution of process of continuous casters is taken place for achieving quality, productivity and efficiency.

Various components are used to compose a continuous caster. These components are a tundish, a shape, oscillator with shapes, a collection of cast-strand supporting rolls, rolls that are used to bend and straighten the cast strand, rolls to pinching and withdrawing cast strands rolls, a collection of spray nozzles, a torch cutter, which are used to cut the cast strand. Also at the beginning of the casting, a model bar for removing the cast strand is used.

The continuous casters contain various types like the vertical type, in which there is the vertical arrangement of the mold and supportive rolls. The second type is the vertical-and-bending continuous caster in which the cast strand with its solid covering is curved in the parallel direction at the location where process of solidification is taken place satisfactorily.

In the curved type of the continuous casters, there is the arrangement of the curved mold and supportive rolls on a semicircle having equivalent radius. In this type, the cast strand is flattened in parallel way at the end of solidification process. Another type of the continuous caters is the "vertical and progressive bending". In such type, vertical arrangements of the mold and a collection of upper support rolls are carried out. In this type, at the end of solidification the cast strand still having a liquid core is gradually crooked, and then gradually straightened to the parallel position. In horizontal type of continuous casters, the mold and support rolls are arranged in parallel ways.

By using the continuous casters of vertical types, the casting of the high-grade steels is carried out because it gives endorsement to the separation of inserting nonmetallic substances, which are discharged into the mold. The curved continuous casters are primarily functional for the mass production of conventional products because of the reduction of the building cost by the inferior height.
