Building a dog kennel needs many adjustment and careful arrangement. People living in cities and urban areas must have a dog kennel to keep the pet out of neighbor's lawns and off the streets. Here are some tips on how to build a dog kennel.

Lots of planning and arrangements should be considered before building a kennel. Factors like location of the kennel, ventilation and drainage system, strength and kind of material used should be placed in foremost criteria.

Size, Shape and Design:

Size is an important consideration for building a kennel, especially when the pet is big in size. The dog kennel should be large enough to allow the pet to lay and sit comfortably. Dog may develop a lonely feeling, if the kennel is too large in size. It also allows cold air to pass inside the kennel during the winter, which might cause discomfort to the dog. Therefore, size of the kennel matters a lot as dogs loves cozier space. Creative shapes and design can be applied while making a kennel ranging from igloo-shaped to Arabian tent-like. As long as the space is cozy, dogs will surely enjoy the place. It can be painted with beautiful colors to give a fresh look year after year.

Location and Amenities:

Location is the next big thing to achieve while building a kennel. If the neighbors are bothered with the smell and barking of the pet, then it should be built farthest from them. To prevent aggressive fights, one dog should be placed in one kennel. Amenities like ventilation and sanitation is an essential part of the kennel. There must be sufficient air circulation and ventilation. This can be achieved by providing a good venting at the top of the kennel. An insulated plastic kennel helps in keeping the dog warm in winter season. The kennel must provide a convenient place for carrying out the sanitation procedures.

While planning a dog kennel, we must consider the pet's comfort and our convenience.
