Door Hardware

Door hardware is also known as door furniture. It basically refers to all that items that are attached to the door to help the door function or to even give it a special, decorative appearance. Some of the items that are used as door furniture are the door knob (or door handle), hinge, door stop, lock, key hole, finger plate, door knocker, thumb latch, pull handle, letter plate, bell push, peephole or wide-angle door viewer, espagnolette, rim lock, escutcheon etc.

A door knob is that which helps the door to be opened, usually the household knobs that are more commonly used work on the basis od a simple mechanism.They have a screw style axle which is called a spinde that has one flat side.It is passed through the door latch, and leaves length on either sides of the door where the knobs are attached.

The knobs are directly screwed to the spindle.A hinge is a bearing that connects two solid objects, allowing them to rotate only within a span of a certain ange between themThere are amny kinds of hinges like the bifold door hinge, the two loop butt hinge, HL hinges etc.

The third most important part of the door is the door stop.The door stop is a device which is used to hold the door in place (open/partially open/closed),to prevent it from swaying with the wind or to keep it from being open too widely.

A peep hole is generally used on the front doors to view whats on the other side of the door without opening it.It is generally a small hole,with a fish lens fitted in it which allows a wider field of view from the inside and you will not be able to view anything from the outside through this.

Door knocks is a kind of door furniture before the bell was invented.It consists of a handle like structure which is mostly made of metal that the user can hold and knock agaist the door in order to alert the people inside.It is used widely as a decorative piece these days. There are door furniture's that are designed specially for disabled persons who might find it difficult to use the normal ones.
