Dry Rot Fungus
Dry rot is a fungal disease that attacks all kinds of wood that is soft wood and hard wood. It causes destruction of the cellulose which causes discoloration and eventually the wood crumbles. This phenomenon often results in the disintegration of the wooden structures such as house floorings, furniture's and mine shafts. Any normal fungi require moisture for its growth. Mostly dry rot takes place in places no water or moisture at all. They are also found in places where there is no ventilation or very high humidity. Also if the wood is not seasoned, then dry rot may occur. It is a kind of fungus that occurs in most of the parts of the places in the world. It mostly affects forest timbers.
Identifying dry rot:
The decay of wood timber may be due to various reasons. It does not always have to be the dry rot that decays the wood. Hence, it is very important to identify that whether the decay has been caused by dry rot or wet rot. Dry rots have the incredible ability of traveling through the building materials other than wood or timber. Thus, it gives out breaks the required potential to spread more quickly through a building or a structure. Due to this reason, more measures like masonry sterilization have to be taken often while treating out breaks and wood rotting fungi.
Treatment for dry rot:
Usually dry rot only affects damp timber. It affects timber with moisture content in excess of 20% only. Hence, for the treatment of dry rot, it is very necessary to remove the moisture from the core. Timber may become dry due to various reasons. The dampness may also come from the outer surface of the building. If the wood is allowed to be made moisture free, then eventually the dry rot may disappear or not take place. It is always not practically possible to keep the wood dry or moisture free. The affected timbers should be replaced with the timber that is already treated. All the affected timber should be treated with a good quality fungicide. The places from where the dry rot has already passed should be isolated with the help of physical container or masonry sterilization.
