The timber cannot remain dry always for a long time hence secondary measures have to taken to prevent this.
What is the remedy for dry rot?
Any infected timber should be removed or replaced with pre-heated timber. When the wood is wet and badly decayed or there is a large hollow space that must be filled then all you have to do is remove the outer surface of the wood and treat the part of the log exposed by removing the face with CPES. After scooping away the wet, decayed wood with a kerosene blow dryer. Next applying the CPES to the interior portion of the log. Apply until the wood will accept no more. Allow the solvents to evaporate and the epoxy to cure. Fill the holes with some pieces of wood that have had the rot protection treatment. Then one has to apply the layup and laminating Resin to cut log surface and replacement piece. Apply the finish coating choose as long as it contains the UV inhibitor. CPES flows and hardens any soft wood it encounters. It virtually eliminates the future possibility of rot and deterioration inside the log. The liquid epoxy will penetrate into the areas. Drill the honey comb pattern holes to help the epoxy penetrate throughout the decayed area. There is Miniwax wood Harder, Bondo epoxy putty which is used for the dry rot repair.
