Dry rot is very hard to fight. The presence of excess moisture in the air causes dry rot. This dry rot is actually the fungus which can cause mildew, mold, staining or decay in the wood. The microorganisms are responsible for removing the cellulose from the timber and finally leaving the wood brittle and susceptible to dry rot. Fungus develops faster in the regions that are dark, moisture, heat, dirt and a dark place to grow. The seasons that cause the conditions for decay are the winters, hot and humid summers. If untreated the dry rot can spread and create more and more damage. Fungus is termed as the cancer at home.

Primary measures to control dry rot

To control and eliminate dry rot is to locate and rectify the source of water causing and maintaining the rot, Promote and maintain rapid drying conditions. The protection against water is the most important thing since it is responsible for the attack of dry rot. Hence, preventing the water contact with the wood is necessary. Using preheated timber or using the inert materials like steel, concrete, steel etc. Spatial and physical isolation can be done by using joist hangers, joinery wrap. This helps in preventing the fungus a possible food source and they prevent timbers from becoming wet. Fungicidal renderings and paints these are effective form of chemical barriers. They are based on the use of Zinc oxychloride. A spray with a masonry biocide which involves drilling perimeter of the infected area and injecting masonry sterilant into the masonry under pressure. Finally it is finished with a surface spray or brush treatment with a sterilant.

Some other treatments

The other treatments include the Insitu chemical treatment on the timber that having a surface spray. However, this is likely to have a very little effect as this provides very little protection on wood. Conventional fungicidal pastes consist of oil and water emulsion that can reduce the wood from dry rot. There are few fluid injections that are carried in organic solvents via plastic valves that are injected into the wood. Borate rods are the preservative is supplied as glass like rods that consists of a special fusion of boron compounds and they are inserted into the holes drilled into the wood. The contractor of the buildings must fully understand the factors which cause the outbreak of dry rot and take preventive measures to eliminate the causes of the outbreak of the dry rot problem. To control the dry rot this is the total responsibility of the specialist treatment companies.
