Evergreen Trees In Home Orchard

The trees that remain green throughout the year are the evergreen trees i.e. they have green leaves throughout the year. Many trees are evergreen and useful as for the fruits. They are useful for growing in the orchards. For the home orchards, you should select such trees that serve the requirement of the fruits for yourself. If you plant the tree that give only a limited number of fruits then it will not be worth planting them for the home orchard. This is because there is a limited place around your house in which you can make an orchard.

Selecting the evergreen trees for the home orchard

Evergreen trees generally grow tall. Therefore while selecting them you should remember that. The common examples are the Mangoes, Iychees, Gruminchama, Macadamias, Feijoa, Pecan, Jackfruit, Citrus, Ioquats, Carambola, Peaches, some types of Cherries, etc.

These trees should give good fruits and regularly. They fruiting frequency should be at least once a year.

The planting of the evergreen trees

While planting them you should select the plants that have good health. They should have the parents who gave good amount of fruits. The various types of evergreen plants have various types of propagation methods. You should use the most efficient method for the propagation. Vegetative propagation in most of the cases where it is possible is the best method. This is because you can develop plants from very healthy and high number of fruits giving plants. The plants that you develop by this method would have the genetically similar to the parent plant.

Caring of evergreen plants

These plants are perennial and therefore they require a constant supply of nutrients and water throughout their life. Every year they undergo the same growth pattern. Therefore, according to the seasons, you must provide water and fertilizers to them.

In addition to this the other activities like the cutting, pruning, mulching etc also prove to be advantageous for them. These improve the number of branches and therefore the plants bear more leaves, flowers, and fruits.

Harvesting the fruits

Each year they will bear fruits. Some even bear fruits throughout the year. While cutting the fruits you should pluck them care fully. Do not damage the tree while doing this. While the plucking of the fruits there is danger of breaking the braches. Sometimes if you cut wrong branch, that can be harmful for the plant itself.

Therefore, even though most of the evergreen plants grow very tall and strong you should take proper care while planting, and even after they attain some growth.
