People who have a love for the birds can develop a backyard specially for the birds. Birds generally feed on plants. So you have to develop your flower garden in such a way that can be used as a source of food for the birds. You can make the birds totally dependent on your flower garden.

Planting shrubs, perennials, annuals, cultivated and native plants attract the birds in a large amount and at the same time will provide food like seeds and fruits for the birds throughout the year.

You can plant sunflower seeds in your garden. The striped and black oil sunflower seeds are their primary feed. These seeds have high energy content and are very nutritious providing proteins as well as fats. Number of birds consumes the sunflower seeds. Some of the birds are cardinals, morning doves, nuthatches, titmice, chickadees, sparrows, juncos and blue jays.

Thistle seeds- these are also the seeds that have a high nutritional value that is rich in fat and protein. Thistle seeds are liked by birds such as goldfinches, juncos, siskin, purple finches, etc.

Milo, Sorghum- it is frequently used as filler in then mixed blends. Generally Milo is not a preferred seed for most of the birds and generally it is used to attract the unpopular birds.

Fruits- the migrating birds who come to another place generally find shortage of food. These birds can rely upon the fruits planted in your garden to fill up their stomach. Fruits can be used as a substitute of food for many birds. You should plant fruit trees like apples, oranges, berries, melons, bananas and raisins.

Humming birds love the nectar of the flowers. You can plant large and a thick garden to invite the humming birds in your garden. They like to visit the flowers and suck the nectar from them. They also feed on the tiny insects living on the plants.

Your garden should be full of colorful and attractive flowers. Many the birds like the nectar of the flower. Also many insects will come to visit the flowers, which will be a source of food for the birds.
