Having an own home orchard is very interesting but one needs to take a lot of care of the entire orchard. One has to do a lot of preparation from planning which type of site, tree to its maintenance. Also taking care of pests is also very important. Home orchards can contain different types of trees according to your choice.

Since home orchards are normally on a smaller scale, maintenance is not a big problem. Fertilizers are needed by the plants for their more enhanced growth and other excellent results. There are lots of fertilizers used in home orchards. These fertilizers also vary drastically and therefore one needs to select the appropriate type of fertilizer.

Fertilizers are not normally needed for the first 'season'. But it is always recommended, to use fertilizers for the sandy soil or for the trees whose growth is very rapid, for better quality of fruits, in very small, amount for at least twice a particular season. Fertilizers should be restricted from being used on very dry soil. The second year of the growth of the trees needs lots of nitrogen fertilizers. Fertilizers containing nitrogen should be should be u8sed after regular intervals. Also the soil containing high amount of pH is beneficial. Avoid soil having iron and zinc deficiencies. Sprays of these iron and zinc fertilizers are available. It is said that phosphorous application is a must for any tree until it starts bearing fruits.

The different types of fertilizers that are commonly used are nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, zinc, magnesium, and boron. There are various types of fertilizers available in the market. There are two types of fertilizers known as the organic fertilizers and those that are inorganic fertilizers. It is always advantageous to use organic fertilizers, as they contain all the minerals needed in adequate amount without having any kind of side effects on the trees. Thought these organic fertilizers are quite expensive, they are recommended for use and proper growth of the plants. Comparatively inorganic fertilizers are less costly. The organic fertilizers can be used by rotating any other green crop.
