Fig trees are the fruit bearing trees which are easy to grow. There are lots of varieties, shapes, sizes in fig fruit. Fig trees are very productive in nature. You need not even fertilize them. It can grow in any soil with slight moisture. It needs adequate sun light to grow. You have to water them regularly to get good yield.

Black jag fig tree can be grown as a tall tree or semi dwarf tree. It can grow up to 15 feet height normally. It will yield sweet purple color fruit mostly in the months from July to September. Normally fig trees can yield fruits from the end of first year. There are two varieties of fig trees. They are Brown Turkey fig tree and Celestial fig trees. These two varieties are growing fast all over US. The fig trees can yield fruits for longer period of time.

Apart from the two old varieties here are hybrid variety fig trees also which can yield fruits in several colors like black, yellow, green, gold, brown and so on. The fruits will have sweet flavor. You can eat it as fresh or dried.

You can plant black fig trees in your home orchard which will give sweet fruits. Black fig fruit is tasty and Jack black fig can be used as dried. You can grow both the varieties in your home orchard. If you have large space in your orchard then you can grow Canodria fig trees which will occupy more space. It will give sweet scented fruits.

If you live in a cold climate then you can select and grow Tennessee Mountain fig tree that can grow in cold temperature regions. You can also grow Patrick's super giant fig tree that will give big fruits which are juicy and tasty.

Normal fig trees can not survive in cold climate. So you need to protect them by mulching and covering the roots. Caring fig trees during winter is very essential. You can even grow fig trees as indoor tree. It is normally known as weeping fig. common fig trees can be grown by any gardener if winter protection is properly given. Many home gardeners grow common fig trees in large containers.
