Most of the plants prefer growing in direct sunlight. Sunlight is important for the process of photosynthesis through which they prepare food for themselves. However, some plants can photosynthesize in shade as well. The shade means indirect light that is not receiving direct sunlight. These plants are very useful for the gardening. This is because the taller plants in the garden block the sunlight or even in some places there is no direct sunlight. Therefore, these places or the places bellow the taller plants remain vacant. The shade plants fill these places.

Planting the shade plants

The shade plants have naturally evolved for growing in the shade. All the groups of plants have these types of the plants. Therefore, according to their natural methods of growing you can grow them. For some of them it is possible to grow them from their seeds for some it is possible to grow from vegetative parts etc.

If you are planting them under the shade of the taller trees then remember that they will have to compete with those trees for nutrients and water. Therefore, make proper provisions for by adding more water and fertilizers. If you are planting them in shaded places, where there were no plants, then such places may also have unsuitable soils. Therefore, you must check the texture and apply some fertilizers. Check and adjust the pH accordingly.

As these plants are, shade loving the right time for planting them is before the rains. This is because then it would, in the following months get, shade, abundant water, and cool temperature.

After care

These plants may be slow growing, most of the times. Therefore, you should not worry if they are growing very slowly. As most of them are slow growing you should do the regular practices like watering, pruning cutting, adding fertilizers comparatively less frequently. However, many of them have evolved so that they can even grow fast in these conditions also. Therefore, you should treat them as the sunlight plants.
