Flowering bulbs provide you with a variety of opportunities to brighten your garden and make it appear more colorful. They are available in a wide range of colors and their period of blooming is also very long as compared to other flowers.

The flowering bulbs need a very small space in your gardening area and you can plant them in perennial or annual flower beds, under the different trees, in between the shrubs or anywhere else in your garden. By proper planning and care, you garden will be full of flowering bulbs during the blooming season.

Soil Preparation

The flowering bulbs grow well in a sandy, loam soil that is well drained. It requires a moderate amount of organic matter. You can preferably make use of peat moss, compost, leaf mold or rotted manure. This is a very good fertilizer for the flowering bulbs. The soil should be somewhat acidic. Take care that ht fertilizer doesn't remains on the leaves or else it will result in burning. if so happens, water the plant immediately.

Spacing the flowering bulbs

The small flowering bulbs should be planted very close together than as compared to the larger bulbs. The different factors that control the spacing of the flowering bulbs are the size of the bulb, the flower and the plants. Placing them close together produces smaller leaves and you can view each flower with its extra ordinary beauty.

Planting

After the site preparation, you should plant the bulbs accurately where they were decided to be planted. Plant them in a proper sequence to heighten its beauty. The base of the flowering bulbs should be planted downwards. The depth of planting then flowering bulb is very important. The general rule for planting them is to the depth that equals to about 2- 3 times the largest diameter of the bulb.

The flowering bulbs are also prone to many diseases that is very difficult to cure. So, it is suggested that prevention id the best cure for the flowering bulbs. You can use fungicides to prevent them from the diseases. It is also important to know that you should avoid planting the diseased bulbs that promotes the growth of fungi on the flowering bulbs.
