Going From Grass To Gorgeous
When it comes to backyard amenities, you've got grass. Lots of it. But that's not the backyard of your dreams.
So, how does a homeowner turn a plain, boring and environmentally unfriendly backyard of nothing but grass into a personal paradise that's just perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beauty of outdoors?
The project can be simple or include multiple phases to carefully craft a private haven away from it all. On the simplistic side, a few plants here and there, maybe a tree and perhaps a few chairs and a table to enjoy barbecues might do the trick. With a little work, some or most of the grass can be replaced with something that's a little more water efficient and or at least something a whole lot prettier to look at.
For those who want something a little more elaborate, a backyard plan complete with a garden, recreation area and a deck for seating and shade can replace that bland looking yard with one that's meant to be enjoyed to its fullest.
Going from grass to gorgeous, however, requires some planning, especially if the more involved route is chosen. The benefits though are well worth every bit of planning and the elbow grease that may involved. It's the difference between trying to relax in a barren grassy wasteland or kicking back on a beautiful deck with a cool drink and soaking up the beauty of fresh flowers, thriving plants as butterflies and birds play in your backyard paradise a visit.
Before getting started ripping out the grass, it's very important to decide what you'd like your backyard to look like and what you need it to be used for. If there are children in the home, keeping a play area for them is certainly a priority, or even for yourself if you have a backyard hobby such as playing horseshoes or lawn darts or so on.
If you're don't intend to do the work yourself, hire a contractor and carefully explain your needs and your wants. Elaborate on what you'd like the yard to look like, what the deck should look like and how you'd like to bring home, yard and deck together in harmony. Be certain to hear the contractor's ideas, too. He or she may even pull in a landscape architect to help do the designing. Take their expert advice, but be certain your needs are met in the design.
Going from plain grass to a flowing backyard that's a natural paradise might take a little work, but the end results will provide a perfect setting for playing, entertaining or even just relaxing.
