Growing Dahlias In Your Garden



The Dahlias are one of the most beautiful flowers in the world and they are widely used as garden plants throughout the world. They are available in different colors, shapes, and sizes. They flower in the late summers and the fall months.

They are available in a number of varieties, which have emerged due to the artificial plant improvement practices. They differ in the height; range of 12 inches to 6-8 feet, colors, and other aspects as well. You have many options and hence you can select according to the need for your garden.

Planting

The Dahlias cannot bear the frost and the temperatures bellow 58 degrees Farenheight. Therefore, you should plan them after the passing away of the frost. They require soil that has a moderate content of water. They will not bear the waterlogged soils. Therefore, do not plant them before, or in the stormy weather. Similarly, water them moderately.

The planting procedure should be as follows.

You should first dig a hole of dimensions 12 x12 inches in height and diameter. Then fill it up to 6 inches with compost manure, and then plant the tubers horizontally. Put some compost manure along within. Then cover it with a layer of soil of approximately 2 inches. Then you can water it.

The Dahlia requires a good amount of fertilizers in the flowering period. Therefore, put sufficient amount of fertilizers in the pit.

You can grow them from the seed as well as. This is the better method and modern one.

Aftercare for the Dahlias

The grown plants require water once in a week. If the weather conditions are a bit hot, then you may water it more frequently. When it grows up to a height of 1 foot, you should regularly prune it. This would increase the flowering of the plant. The removal of the side tubers will promote the growth of flowers having a big size. If you remove all the buds that have flowered, the plant will provide new buds that will flower.

They need protection from the pests, and therefore you should take care as you do for the other plants.
