How Do I Make A Dog Kennel

Kennel is better known as the dwelling place for dogs, in short a dog house. Buying ready made dog houses is a very costly affair. It thus makes much more sense in making one at home according to ones needs.

Building a kennel:

The best way to make a large enough kennel for the dog to sleep or lie down is by making it with the wood. A two room kennel is very comfortable for the dog. Make the outer room half as wide as the inner one. For measuring the height of the kennel, the dog should be measured from the floor till the head of the dog in a sitting position and add 150 mm should be added to the height. The doorways should be the width of the shoulder of the dog and 2 inches should be added more. Add the length and width of the two rooms together should be added and a floor to this size using 18mm exterior grade Plywood should be made. For the base, a frame of the same size as the floor should be built using 50 x 100mm (2 x 4in) softwood timber. The floor should be fitted to the base, using 32mm (1 1/4in) woodscrews.

Finishing steps:

The walls and inner partition should be made from 18mm exterior grade clipboard with end walls that is supposed to be cut at 45 degree angles for a sloping roof. One needs to cut doorways in the partition and in one of the walls. For the roof, 18mm exterior grade plywood should be used. The apex needs to be joined with plastic corner joints. The roof should be covered with bituminous felt, held with galvanized clout nails. The roofs have to be detachable for better cleaning with the help of cabin hooks. The outside walls of the kennel should be painted with one coat of followed with another coat of primer. The outside of the wall should be treated fungicide that keeps it away from dry rot. One must ensure that the end product that is bee used should be pet friendly.
