The flowers are very delicate and hence when you wish to cut them you should take care. In most of the cases, you should cut the flowers right when they have just started to open. You should take into account many things, which may affect the life of the cut flowers.

The time for the cutting the flowers

You should cut the flowers in the morning or late in the afternoon. Both these times are ideal for cutting because at this time the stems of the flowers contain moisture. This moisture will keep the flowers fresh for a long time. The moisture plays a very important role in the cut life of the flowers. Therefore, after you cut the flowers you should keep their stems in water for about an hour or so. This, wills increase the water content. This is very important if the weather of the place is hot and humid.

Cutting

For cutting the flowers, you should use a sharp pruner. This should be such that it should allow a smooth cut. The cutting should be proper. It should be diagonal. These cuts should be at the nodes or the joints. This will enable them to absorb the water from the vase after placing them in the vase.

There are specific times for each of the flowers for cutting them. You should first get the knowledge of the best time for cutting them. You should keep some part of the stem along with the cut flowers. Also in addition to this, you may keep some leaves too.

While cutting the flowers, you should never crush or those flowers or the stems. You should not bring them in contact with some chemicals.

Storing the cut flowers

The cut flowers should be stored in cool and open space. You should keep them in a vase that contains water. This vase should be good and it should not release any toxic substances in the water. In addition, you should remember that you should not put any toxic chemicals or substances in the water. You should keep some flowers that may release some toxic or harmful substances in the water that may harm the cut flowers.

If the flowers start bending then an air bubble may have entered in their stem. In such a case re-cut them and then keep them again in water.

Thus, the cutting as well as the storing of the flowers both, requires much care.
