How To Plan Apple Trees In Home Orchards




The apples are a very good choice for the home orchard. The apple trees provide apples in sufficient number that will meet your requirements. The apple fruits are the favorite fruits of many people. In addition to this, the trees also look beautiful and they will enhance the beauty of the house.

However, for getting the fruits from the apple trees you should take proper care for the plantations before planting as well as after the plant begin to grow.

Selecting the proper verity

There are a number of varieties, which are available in these days. Some of them are the Pristine, Goldrush, and Williams' Pride etc. you should select according to the conditions that will suite your area. This is very important, as wrong selection would affect both, the quality, as well as the quantity.

The apple trees will need proper sunlight. They need sunlight in the early morning. This is important for removal of the dew from the leaves, which may cause diseases. The site for the planting should have proper aeration and should have protection from the frost.

They are quite versatile in their requirement for the soil. They prefer the soils that range from the sandy loam to the sandy clay loam. However, it is important that he soil have good drainage system. They prefer the pH around 6.5.

Planting the apple trees

You can get the ready saplings of the apple trees from the local nurseries. You should purchase the saplings that are about one year old. The best time for it, is the March or the April. When you bring the saplings, you should better plant them immediately. For this, you should dig a hole of up to 2 to 3 inches. It is better to apply some mulch. Remove the weeds and grass around it.

Keep some distance between the adjacent plants. It should be around 8-feet for the dwarf varieties and for the taller varieties, it should be around 14-feet. If the soil is good then you should keep them at the same level as they were in the nursery, but if the soil does not have good drainage system you may keep them a little higher than the nursery.
