Bird watching is a very common hobby of many of us. Many times, it so happens that while watching the birds, you feel like start backyard birding. This is so because you get so used to these birds and find a lot pleasure and relaxation when spending time with them.

For backyard birding, the first thing is that you should have a good collection of trees, shrubs and flowers for attracting the birds. Planning thoughtfully about the backyard birding can reduce the cost as well as provide entertainment for the whole family.

The best way for starting the backyard birding is as follows:

1. Setting your priorities- make a correct decision that which type of birds you want to attract, so that you can plan according to the needs of that particular species.

2. Use native plants wherever possible- to start birding, it is always suggested to use the native plants in your plan. You can get the list of native plants from the botany department of a nearby college or university. Native plants are considered excellent for birding.

3. Draw a map of your property- using a graph paper draw a scale of your building. This is to identify the different sites like sunny and shady sites, sandy sites, areas for pets, storage, etc. Take care that birding should not be affected by any of these factors. You can make the possible changes on the graph paper before actually implementing it in your garden.

4. Get your soil tested- find out which type of soil your backyard contains and whether it is free from organic deficiencies. If so, you can correct it by fertilization or by adding compost. The soil is very important as the plants will survive on it that are main source for attracting the birds.

5. Develop your planting plan- make a rough sketch of the different plants you want to have in your backyard. Avoid including too many trees and be sure to keep some open place.

6. Implement your plan-once everything is ready on the paper, its time to implement it actually. Water the trees and the shrubs regularly.

And now its time to enjoy watching the different birds visiting in your backyard and responding positively to your hard efforts.
