The Need:

Some owners have three or four dogs. They also plan to increase the number of dogs to a large number in some years. For example, one may plan to have about ten dogs. It is rather impractical to have a large number of dog kennels for all these. In this case, there is a necessity of a large space that can accommodate all these pets together. The garage is one such space and hence the need of converting a garage to a dog kennel propped up.

Procedure:

A garage should be converted to a dog kennel only if the number of dogs is more. If there are only one or two dogs, then they would feel lonely in a big space like a garage. Before converting the garage, it ought to be relocated to the front of the house. If it is felt that the barking would be excessive due to large number of dogs, then this would pester the neighbors. In this case, the use of bark collars is recommended. From the garage, all the vehicles and equipment related to garage work must be removed. Any stains or fluids if present on the floor must be thoroughly wiped off. The floor of the garage has to be made very clean and should similar to the floor of a dog kennel. This is very important because such fluids are very harmful for the dogs. The presence of any nails or wires on the walls is also undesirable. These may get entangled in the hair of the dog and tear them apart. Hence, gross attention has to be paid to all the existing walls of the garage. Generally, garages have three walls with the fourth side open for vehicles to move in. Now, an additional fourth wall with openings for the dogs to enter and exit must be constructed.

Finishing Touch:

Dogs are in need of appropriate ventilation. More the number of dogs, more the ventilation would be required. New ventilators would have to be constructed to make the space airy. Dog beds and dog feeders could be placed inside. Care should be taken that the space inside the garage does not become water-logged.
