The materials used for casters wheels are the rubber, plastic and metals. The rubber and the plastics are used for the light and the medium weight casters only. In addition, for the heavy weight bearing casters, the wheels are made from some rust proof metals as galvanized iron. To prevent rusting some other rust protecting polishes or coatings can also be used for the wheels. The costlier stainless steel wheels are also used to prevent rusting.

If the casters are used for indoor use, or where the floor or the ground is smooth, the wheels should be having a covering of soft rubber. However, this rubber should be such that it should grip the ground and in addition to this, it should not leave the marks on the floor from on which they are moved. For this, purpose such rubber as the thermoplastic rubbers, etc are used.

The materials used for casters steering and the other parts as the nuts are made from metals. These include all the important parts that bear the weight. They are mostly made from metals having good tensile strength. The common metal used is the steel. The rusting is very important factor and the materials used for casters.
