Mulching Flower Garden
As mentioned earlier mulching is a very important process and a very integral part of Gardening. Many of us do not think mulching as an important process but it is a very important process. During mulching we can use the organic products these products are very useful for the plant even when they give slow results. Due to mulching the time which is required for weeding and watering is reduced very drastically. So you donot have to look after the plants for a long time. Mulching also improves the appearance of your garden. It will also keep dirt from splashing on your pretty flowers and the vegetables when it rains. This will ensure that you are flowers are beautiful and the vegetables which you are going to eat should be clean and healthy.
If you are going to consider organic mulching then you can use any living material like bark, straw, leaves, grass clippings and pine needles is a good option for you. The organic material will definitely improve the soil texture and increase the activity of the good soil bacteria, earth worms. Note that the organic mulches will hold excess moisture in very moist conditions this will encourage slugs and snails. These snails and slugs damage the roots in two ways firstly some of the species will directly feast on the roots and some will bring the mulch in contact with the stems until they rot. So while applying Organic mulch to the garden be careful.
Advantages of Mulching:
When you spread the mulch in your garden or more precisely when you under go mulching in your garden it adds organic matter to the soil, it naturally prevents weeds, keeps soil cool and moist. This is especially useful for the roots of the plants which are the soul of the plants. Another advantage is the recycling of the nutrients.
Procedure of Mulching:
For mulching you can use the materials which are easily available like chipped or shredded bark, shredded leaves, half finished compost and hay or straw. Now to the main point the basic procedure is to cover the soil with any type of mulch which is available note that the layer should be uniformly spread and two to three inches thick. The mulches should be placed between the two plants. You should avoid covering the plants with the mulches. Keep the mulch away from the stems of the plant a good two or three inches away.
