Neonatal Ventilation
Neonatal is a new born baby. New born baby breaths on its own. But some times the new born faces difficulty in breathing. That is when the neonatal ventilators come in the picture.
When the new born can not breathe properly the machine helps the infant to breath. The machine or the ventilator helps the baby with enough pressure so that the air is forced in the lungs. So that the baby's breathing rate becomes regular.
There are different types of ventilators available. It depends on the condition of the new born. If the new born develops any infection in the lungs he might need the help of the machine. If the lungs are not developed or the new born has respiratory distress syndrome or he has some fluid in the lungs and it is not cleared these are some of the reasons when the new born needs help.
When the muscles are weak the new born can not breathe properly and he does not get enough oxygen in his blood. The lack of oxygen can create lots of problems for the baby. It is very important for the baby to get enough oxygen in his blood to develop properly.
There are different types of neonatal ventilators. Some of them are,
Nasal continuous positive airway pressure. This machine is used when the baby has mild breathing problem. The babies who do not respond to the CPAP are put on the conventional ventilators. A tube is placed in the windpipe and it is attached to the machine. Even the baby is not breathing the machine breathes for it. Sometimes this conventional ventilator fails and then the doctor has to use High frequency Oscillator. This type of ventilator keeps the baby's lungs inflated with air. Sometimes the doctor can see that the conventional ventilator is damaging the lungs so he changes the machine to the High frequency Oscillator.
It depends on the each new born baby as to how long he will need the help of the breathing machine or the ventilators.
