Plant Species For Birds

Birds need plants to satisfy their hunger. If you want to view a number of birds in your backyard, then you will have to plant a number of trees there.

The different plant species for birds are as follows:

Evergreen Trees and Shrubs

* Holly- Hollies provides the birds with a dense covering as well as fruits. The leaves are non-pricky and are used for screening.

* Prunus Caroliniana- birds love the fruits of these small trees. They are not very weedy, but you will find some seedlings sprouting up.

* Juniperus virginiana- birds like to rest on these trees because along with providing a dense shelter to the birds, it also provides them with food. It is usually a favorite of the winter humming birds

Deciduous Trees and Shrubs

* Red Maple- it is very famous as a yard and a street tree. The delicate red colored flower blossoming in the winters specifically attracts the winter finches.

* Oxydendrum Arboreum- it is a medium-sized tree bearing small white colored flowers during the winters for the butterflies and the bees. The young leaves of the tree are very tasty for the birds.

* Vibernum- it is a very common shrub whose fruits are just swallowed by the birds the moment they appear.

Woody Vines

* Gelsemium sempervirens- it is an evergreen vine that produces yellow colored scented flowers during the spring time. It also offers a dense covering as shelter for the birds. These are especially the favorite of the butterflies who like to suck the nectar from the flowers.

Herbaceous Plants

* Agastache- these produces the flowers that are very much enjoyed by the humming birds, whereas the seeds are enjoyed by the goldfinches.

* Cuphea Micropetala- this is a tree having flowers that are big tubular in shape and red colored. The hummers like these flowers very much.

Humming Bird Nectar Plants

Humming birds adds to the beauty of your garden. So planting a variety of nectar plants will be a good source of food for then humming birds and also there will be no need to hang up a feeder except during the winters.
