What is pruning?

Pruning is a process in which the branches of the trees or the young plants are cut in such a way that the tree faces no stress at all of what so ever kind. When the tree is in its first year then you just have to remove the broken branches or roots. So in the first year you have to just do this. You can start pruning about the end of the first year. So generally when the plant matures especially the fruit plant then you should cut it. The type of pruning which is required for each plant is different. So this process mainly depends on the type of plants. It also depends on the growing traits of the plants. For example for the taproot plants need to establish themselves first and when they start to grow strongly then you get the indication that now you can prune the tree.

When the trees get taller the pruning should be confined to the lower branches only. This process will increase the quality and the length of Butt log. The section of the tree is very useful for the timber companies. This part of the trunk is very useful for timber. When you are considering a bush then you can cut the top branches which will encourage it to grow as a bush. So pruning is very plant specific process.

The right time to prune the trees is as follows:

Most of the fruit trees of all the types should be pruned at the end of winter season only. This is the exact time to prune the trees since the after the bitter weather the trees break their dormancy. However the fruit trees can be pruned only when the new shoots proliferate in the summer season. If the sprouts of the fruit trees have come in an unwanted place then you can cut them. All the types of sprouts that is the root sprouts that are present at the base of the stem, the water sprouts the short twigs which are present on the top of the tree. These sprouts can also be pruned in the summer season.

This is how the Adult fruit trees should be pruned ideally.
