Swivel Casters

A swivel caster transports delicate parts and materials virtually on air. They are mainly designed for heavy-duty material handling. It is most commonly used for laboratory, hospital, heavy industrial purposes, food service and poor floor surface applications. However, at the same time they are not advisable or recommended for applications that involve extreme heat conditions, abuse and towing.

The swivel casters have a threaded stem that stems directly into a threaded end bracket. Te swivel casters have three different wheel sizes to choose from, with the option of locking brake. The diameter of the wheels usually varies between 1.620", 2.000", or 3.000" with the corresponding capacities of 70 lbs, 75 lbs, and 95 lbs respectively.

The main advantages of these casters are the high holding capacity and durability. They are better in comparison to the rubber wheel casters. They have greater protection against abrasive surfaces. They are also resistant to chunking and shearing wear.

Many swivel casters include locking and brake system. Total-lock models have a special brake-mechanism that responds to light pressure. They are mounted on a smooth-contoured pedal of reinforced thermoplastic. Available in 12 twin-wheel models, the TwinTech Combi Swivel Casters features the mechanical brake that permits the wheels to rotate and swivel freely whenever in OFF mode. It also prevents swiveling and rotation when in ON position. These casters are constructed of pressure die cast aluminum shells, casters are offered in diameters of 5 or 6inches. Their load capacities range from 198 lbs to 330 lbs.

The apparatus that is used in the construction of a swivel caster are

* A housing

* A wheel coupled to the housing, including a toothed cog on an inner side of the wheel.

* A mounting stem that is pivotally fixed to the revolving axis to the housing.

* A brake lever bracket that is coupled pivotally to the housing. It includes a brake pin that prevents wheel movement relative to the housing.

Thus, the casters can be used in applications that require dependable performance combined with design style.
