Dry rot is a fungus that is better known as building cancer. They rampage through buildings and quickly destroy any kind of timber or wood in its way. The fungus, that survive in moist and a place where there is no ventilation, penetrate the bricks to gain access to more timber, wood. They can thus cause a huge destruction of structures and other wooden materials. As the fungus survives in a place that is not very well ventilated, it can hence occur in places that are hardly seen. Hence, the damage caused by the might turn out to be very harmful when discovered.

Identifying dry rot:

The timber might decay due to various reasons. Dry rot is not the only thing that decays the wood. Therefore, it is very important to identify the decay has been caused either by dry rot or wet rot. Dry rots have the most amazing ability of traveling through the building matter other than wood or timber. Hence, it gives out breaks that is required potentially to spread more quickly through a building or any given structure. Due to this reason, more measures like masonry sterilization have to be taken often while treating out breaks and wood rotting fungi.

Treatment for dry rot:

Usually damp timber is the only thing affected by dry rot. It affects timber with moisture content in excess of 20% or more only. Hence, for the treatment of dry rot, it is very necessary to remove the moisture from the core. Timber may catch dry rot due to various reasons. The dampness might also come in from the outer surface of the building. If the timber is given the chance to be made moisture free, then slowly the dry rot may disappear or even may not take place. Practically it is not possible to keep the wood dry or moisture free for a very long time. The timbers that are affected with dry rot should be replaced with the timber that is already pre-treated. All the affected timbers should be treated with a good quality fungicide that will help them from being protected against dry rot. The places from where the dry rot has already passed should be isolated with the help of physical container or masonry sterilization.
